After a two-plus week hiatus, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will make its return to the track this weekend with a race at Richmond Raceway Saturday afternoon.
The return to action means the race for dominance atop the field will make itself known once more. As the field continues to jockey for playoff position, they will have to be strategic as they tackle the 0.75-mile track.
Ben Rhodes will start on the pole. The 24-year-old for ThorSport Racing currently ranks first in wins (two), second in season points (205) and third in laps led (23). In his only career truck race at Richmond, Rhodes finished third (Sep. 10, 2020).
Austin Hill will start second. After setting a career-high in top-10 finishes last season in the truck series (17), the 26-year-old for Hattori Racing Enterprises scuffled coming out of the gate. In his first two 2021 truck races, Hill finished 22nd and 23rd. However, Hill has started to look more like his 2020 vintage, as the No. 16 Toyota has finished inside the top 10 in the last three truck races. In one career truck race at Richmond (Sep. 10, 2020), Hill finished eighth.
Sheldon Creed will start ninth. In one career truck race at Richmond, Creed finished 13th (Sep. 10, 2020).
Kyle Busch will make his return to the truck circuit this weekend and start 12th. After winning the truck race at Atlanta on Mar. 20, Busch has finished first or second in 15 of his last 16 truck races (he finished 21st at Atlanta on June 6, 2020).
John Hunter Nemechek currently leads the field in season points (211) and will look to rebound from a disappointing 39th-place finish in the Bristol Dirt Race. Nemechek leads the field in laps led and in stage wins (five). It will be the 23-year-old’s first truck appearance at Richmond. Nemechek will start in 18th.
Stage lengths for the race will end on lap 70, lap 140 and the finish on lap 250. Coverage for the race will begin at 1:30 p.m. EST on Fox Sports 1. The Motor Racing Network will fill your auditory needs.
