2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series preview: Homestead

For a third week in a row, NASCAR remains in the state of Florida as it heads to Homestead-Miami Speedway for a two-day weekend in the Xfinity and Cup Series.

Last season, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Xfinity Series ran a doubleheader to make up for lost time, but Saturday afternoon will be the only race on the 1.5-mile oval. Harrison Burton and now-Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe earned the two wins on the track last year.

Defending champion Austin Cindric will start on the pole Saturday and looks to bounce back from a runner-up finish on the Daytona road course after being involved in an incident with A.J. Allmendinger at the stage one finish. In four starts at Homestead, Cindric has scored a top-10 finish in every race, but has to earn a win.

Daniel Hemric joins Cindric on the front row and has started 2021 on the right foot with a top-10 and a top-five. We will look to continue those better fortunes on a track that hasn’t served him well in three starts at the Xfinity level. He’s finished outside the top 30 in two of his starts and wrecked out in last year’s second race.

Former NTT IndyCar Series driver Santino Ferrucci makes his NASCAR debut Saturday afternoon for Sam Hunt Racing. Ferrucci will start 21st.

Due to Homestead’s progressive banking, two drivers will need to be watched by everyone Saturday afternoon as they take advantage of riding next to the wall and they are Noah Gragson and Tyler Reddick. Reddick will be piloting the No. 23 Chevrolet for Our Motorsports and teaming up with Brett Moffitt. Reddick won back-to-back races in the Xfinity Series between 2018 and 2019 and scored a top-five in his lone Cup Series start.

Josh Berry makes his second start for JR Motorsports after running the season opener at Daytona. He ran well on the superspeedway but was collected in a “Big One” late in the race. Berry starts 20th.

Coverage for the Contender Boats 250 begins at 4:30 p.m. EST on Fox Sports 1. The Motor Racing Network will provide your audible necessities. Stages for the race end on lap 40, lap 80 and the finish on lap 167.
