So you want to make left and right turns?
After the madness that was the Camping World Truck Series Friday evening, the racing can’t get much worse in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race..right?
Austin Cindric was the winner of the season opener on the Daytona International Speedway oval and won the inaugural road course race last season, leading 21 laps. He will be the clear favorite Saturday evening as he starts on the front row with pole sitter Brett Moffitt.
This is Moffitt’s first time running the road course in the Xfinity race, but he should be in for a solid day after a great run in the truck race last year. He finished second and led 13 laps. While he did have a rough go in the truck race Friday, he has laps down over the rest of the field and has the ability to correct the mistakes he made during that race.
A.J. Allmendinger will be another driver to watch Saturday as he scored four top-five finishes and won a road course race in the Xfinity Series last season. He finished fourth at Daytona last year and after a nice run in the season opener, he will be chasing down Cindric and Moffitt from the sixth starting position.
There will be friendly competition between NFL players as New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara sponsors Ryan Vargas in the No. 6 car for JD Motorsports. The Big Squeezy is Kamara’s juice bar chain with locations in Louisiana and Northern California. Antonio Williams is a running back for the Buffalo Bills and has investment in the career of Joe Graf Jr. Graf Jr. starts inside the top 10 while Vargas rolls off 12th.
Making their Xfinity Series debuts Saturday are Ty Gibbs, Natalie Decker and Kris Wright. Gibbs will be running the No. 54 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing while Decker runs for Reaume Brothers Racing and Wright will pilot the No. 26 for Sam Hunt Racing. Gibbs, Wright and Decker start 15th, 19th and 21st respectively.
Miguel Paludo returns to NASCAR for the first time since 2013. He will run the No. 8 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports. This is his third start in the Xfinity Series after running on Road America and Watkins Glen International in 2012. He will have his work cut out starting from the 35th position.
Stages for the Super Start Batteries 188 end on lap 15, lap 30 and the finish on lap 52. TV coverage will begin at 5:00 p.m. EST on Fox Sports 1. The Motor Racing Network will power up your ears over the airwaves.
