The Round of 10 for the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series will conclude at Talladega Superspeedway Saturday afternoon.
After non-playoff driver Sam Mayer took home the victory at Bristol Motor Speedway to begin the Round of 10, only Austin Hill is currently locked into the Round of 8, as he took home the checkered flag at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sept. 25.
Sheldon Creed will start on the pole at Talladega. The 22-year-old for GMS Racing will be making only his second career start at Talladega in the truck series. In his only career start at Talladega (Oct. 12, 2019), Creed finished ninth. Creed can clinch a spot in the Round of 8 by either winning outright, collecting 10 points if there is another winner, or by picking up three points if there is a repeat winner.
Despite failing to pick up a win during the regular season, Brett Moffitt currently sits third in points among the 10-driver playoff field. In two career truck series starts at Talladega, Moffitt has finished 17th (Oct. 13, 2018) and fourth (Oct. 12, 2019). Moffitt can clinch a Round of 8 spot by winning outright, collecting 18 points if there is another winner, or by collecting 12 points if there is a repeat winner. Moffitt will start the race in eighth.
Zane Smith will make his series debut at Talladega. Smith is fourth in points behind Hill, Creed and Moffitt. The 21-year-old for GMS Racing can clinch a spot in the next round of the postseason by winning outright, collecting 23 points if there is a new winner, or by collecting 17 points if there is a repeat winner. Smith will start third.
Ben Rhodes and Todd Gilliland currently sit below the playoff cutline. Rhodes currently sits below the cutoff by six points, while Gilliland lags by 19. In four career truck series starts at Talladega, Rhodes has an average finish of 18.8, with his best finish coming on Oct. 12, 2019 (12th). Gilliland, meanwhile, has an average finish of 11.0 in two career truck starts at Talladega. He finished runner-up to Spencer Boyd in last season’s running at Talladega. Gilliland will start 10th, while Rhodes will follow in 11th.
Stages for the race end on lap 20, lap 40 and the finish on lap 94. Coverage will begin on Fox Sports 1 at 1:00 p.m. EST. The Motor Racing Network will provide radio coverage.
