Bubba Wallace, driver of the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet, will not be returning to the team after the 2020 season.
The news was first reported by Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, and Wallace confirmed the news via social media:
The 26-year-old is competing in his third full-time season in the NASCAR Cup Series and is on pace to have the best year of his career so far. He has a career-high five top-10 finishes and currently boasts an average finish of 20.2, which is also the best of his career so far. His best career result came in his fifth start in the premier series as he finished second in the 2018 Daytona 500.
Wallace is the only black driver competing in NASCAR and has been one of the lead voices for the Black Lives Matter movement across sports.
Throughout 2020, he has landed numerous sponsorship deals with companies such as DoorDash, Cash App, Beats by Dre and Urban Outfitters.
Wallace has had rumored links with multiple teams but no credible reports have been made as of it.
