It is go time for the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series drivers as Thursday night’s race at Richmond Raceway will be the last race before the playoffs begin with the first round of 10 race at Bristol Motor Speedway next Thursday. This will be a new experience for these drivers as this will be the first race at Richmond in the truck series since 2005.
Eight drivers have clinched their spot in the playoffs with six different drivers clinching their spot by reaching victory lane while Christian Eckes and Brett Moffitt have locked up his spot in the playoffs without a victory in 2020. Like the Cup Series night race at Daytona International Speedway two weeks ago, there will be a three-way battle for the playoffs with the final two spots up for grabs.
Tyler Ankrum (14 points above the cutline), Todd Gilliland (10 points above the cutline) and Derek Kraus (10 points below the cutline) are the three drivers competing for their chance to compete for the truck series championship.
In the Cup Series, William Byron won his way in the postseason and for this race, the drivers battling for the playoffs can take fate into their own hands.
Last year, Todd Gilliland won at Martinsville and Tyler Ankrum won at Texas while Derek Kraus has yet to win a race in his young career. Kraus, Gilliand and Ankrum will start sixth, eighth and 11th respectively.
The top two drivers in overall points this postseason are currently Austin Hill and Moffitt. Hill has produced the most consistent results with eight top-five finishes and 13 top-10 finishes. Moffitt, despite being winless on the season, has six top-five finishes and 10 top-10 finishes in 2020. Hill will start alongside Ben Rhodes, who won last week’s race at Darlington Raceway, while Moffitt will start fourth beside Eckes.
Coverage for the ToyotaCare 250 will begin at 8:00 p.m. EST. The stages end on lap70, lap 140 and the finish on lap 250. You can catch the race on Fox Sports 1 and the Motor Racing Network.
