NASCAR heads back to the track that’s “Too Tough to Tame” at Darlington Raceway for the traditional Labor Day race weekend. While this season has been anything but normal, the schedule got back on track after last weekend at Daytona International Speedway. After a classic finish involving Chase Briscoe and Kyle Busch back in May, will the Xfinity Series deliver another instant classic on Saturday?
Justin Haley will roll off from the pole Saturday afternoon after winning at Daytona last Friday. He was able to score the win after his two Kaulig Racing teammates in AJ Allmendinger and Ross Chastain wrecked each other in turn four on the final lap. He currently sits fourth in the playoff standings with two wins. Haley finished 10th in May’s race.
Briscoe will join Haley on the front row. He out-dueled Kyle Busch to win May’s Darlington race. Since then, he has rattled off four more wins to bring his season total to six. Briscoe has finished inside the top 10 in 10 of the last 13 races and will be the favorite going into Saturday’s race.
Austin Cindric will start fourth in Saturday’s race. He has finished inside the top 10 in the last 10 races with nine of them being inside the top five. He is looking to draw even again with Briscoe for most wins in 2020. Cindric finished fourth in the May race and will look to extend his top-10 finish streak to 11.
Brandon Brown and Jeremy Clements continue to battle it out for the final spot in the playoffs. Brown is currently 32 points ahead of Clements, but will start four spots behind Clements in 17th. In the May race, Clements finished 12th and Brown finished right behind him in 13th.
A Cup driver will be competing Saturday as Denny Hamlin will fill in the No. 54 Toyota. He will start last.
Stages for the race end on lap 45, lap 90 and the finish on lap 147. TV coverage for the Xfinity race begins at 12:30 p.m. EST on NBC. The Motor Racing Network will have radio coverage.
