2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series preview: Talladega

The Xfinity Series continues its trek into the dog days of the season with a Saturday stop at Talladega Superspeedway.

The field will not only look to continue to jockey for playoff position, but also contend with the biggest track on the circuit in Talladega.

Justin Haley will start on the pole for the first time in his Xfinity career after the lineup was set by random draw. The 21-year-old for Kaulig Racing will look to stretch his consecutive top-15 finish streak to four.

Chase Briscoe, who finished fourth in last year’s Talladega race, will start fourth and be one of the four drivers to take part in the third installment of the Dash 4 Cash series. The 25-year-old for Stewart-Haas Racing picked up his third win of the season last Sunday and is currently second among the field in points (417) and first in wins.

The remaining three drivers to compete for the $100,000 prize in the Dash 4 Cash at Talladega will be Brandon Jones, Ross Chastain and AJ Allmendinger. Jones, Chastain and Allmendinger will start sixth, ninth and 34th respectively. Allmendinger will look to claim his second Dash 4 Cash victory on the season after he won the most recent Dash 4 Cash installment at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Noah Gragson will look to collect his third win of the season after late cautions zapped away his late lead and opportunity for the win last Sunday. The No. 9 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports leads the field in points (435), laps led (317) and stage wins (five). The 21-year-old is also tied with Harrison Burton for the most top-five finishes on the season so far (seven). Gragson will start fifth.

Burton, who won last Saturday, will start 11th. The 19-year-old rookie for Joe Gibbs Racing leads the field in total laps run (1,830) and second in quality passes (436). Burton remains the only driver among the field to be 10-for-10 in top-10 finishes this season.

Austin Cindric remains the highest driver in points (fourth with 380) that has yet to collect a win this season. The 21-year-old for Team Penske finished in the top 10 in both races at Homestead last weekend and will look to build off of last season’s fifth-place finish in Talladega. Cindric will start seventh.

Stages will end on lap 25, lap 50, and the finish on lap 113. There will be a competition caution on lap 10.

TV coverage of the race will begin at 5:30 p.m. EST on Fox Sports 1. Radio coverage will be on the Motor Racing Network.
