Fights to make after UFC on ESPN: Overeem vs. Harris

While Saturday night’s UFC event was filled with high-octane action and canvas painting(blood), many across the MMA world were disappointed in the amount of decisions that were deemed questionable. The main event saw Alistair Overeem finish Walt Harris, but that would be the only main card fight to not go into the hands of the judges. However, we move forward and I play matchmaker as to what should come next for our participants from Saturday.

Alistair Overeem vs. Derrick Lewis

Both men are making rebounds in the heavyweight division, and Overeem had one of his better recent performances on Saturday night. Lewis lives in the United States, so there would not be a problem with visas or travel. These two have never fought each other, and for Lewis, this could easily put his name back into the title mix. With a win here, it would be three-in-a-row. For Overeem, it would prove that he has one more run left in the tank.

Walt Harris vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik

Two heavyweights that are coming off of devastating losses. Rozenstruik could use a step down in competition after being knocked out in under a minute by Francis Ngannou. This fight gives a chance for both men to assert their names back into the elites of the division.

Claudia Gadelha vs. Carla Esparza 2

Gadelha did not look like her prime self at all against Angela Hill Saturday night, and some might see that she should have lost. All that doesn’t matter right now, but let’s run back another close fight that Gadelha had, and that is with former strawweight champ, Carla Esparza. Esparza has won three straight, with her most recent win coming against Michelle Waterson at UFC 249. Gadelha has won two in a row. It’s a perfect fight for two women trying to get back into the top-five and make another title run.

Dan Ige vs. Song Yadong

Why not? Both men are coming off controversial decision wins on the exact same card. Ige can look to stay in the top 15, while Yadong can steal it from him. Both men love to throw down and we could get a highly-entertaining fight from these two. Book it.

Other fights to make:

Kevin Holland vs. Rodolfo Vieira

Krzysztof Jotko vs. Gerald Meerschaert

Cortney Casey vs. Maryna Moroz

Darren Elkins vs. Marlon Vera
