Rich 10 NHL Rankings(Nov. 25th-Dec. 1st)

  1. Washington Capitals(16-4-5)
  • Record over this week: 1-2-0
  • Previous Ranking: 1
  •  The Washington Capitals have been consistent in this top spot this season. With players such as Alexander Ovechkin and John Carlson leading the team in points and goals, it is not surprising they have managed to stay in the top spot. Although the team has been doing well, they lost two games straight this past week against the Canucks in a shootout and the Rangers.
  1. Boston Bruins(15-3-5)
  • Record over this week 3-0-0
  • Previous Ranking: 3
  • From ending last season second in the league to being right back to this spot, the Bruins are having nothing but success this season. With Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, who have both put up over 30 points this season, they are carrying this team to the top. The Bruins have had some ups and downs this season with goaltending, allowing 7 goals this past week combined in three games. The offense however almost doubled that in terms of scoring in the last three games and have contributed to the team moving up in ranking.

     3. Edmonton Oilers(16-7-3)

  • Record over this week: 3-1-0
  • Previous Ranking: 5
  • The Oilers are continuing to improve this season, especially after coming off a shootout win against Arizona on Sunday. The Oilers are being carried by none other than 22-year-old captain Connor McDavid, who leads the Western Conference with 18 goals this season. McDavid is the Oilers’ key aspect when it comes to winning games because of his consistency in goal scoring. Right alongside McDavid is veteran center Leon Draisaitl who leads the team in points and assists. This team has fluctuated this season in their ability to win games but they have stuck out to remain ahead.

     4. New York Islanders(16-3-2)

  • Record over this past week: 2-1-0
  • Previous Ranking: 2
  • The New York Islanders are a strong team but struggle with consistency due to a lack of goaltending. This week alone, the Islanders goaltenders gave up 9 goals,  including one during a shootout against the Sharks on Saturday. The offense of the Islanders has been able to keep the game on their side which has helped lead them to overtime in the last three games. The Islanders leading scorer is 22-year-old center Mathew Barzal, with an overall 20 points this season. The Islanders are a very good team this season but keep fluctuating on the ranking system. The team will head this which could make or break where they end up ranking halfway through the season.

     5. St. Louis Blues(14-5-5)

  • Record over this past week: 2-1-0
  • Previous ranking: 5
  • The Blues have certainly stayed consistent but gone down a few notches. The Blues goaltending is keeping them afloat with Jordan Binnington having 539 saves this season and his GAA is at 2.23, which is consistently getting back to where it was last season. The Blues have struggled to score these past few weeks but came out strong last week, scoring 8 goals combined in two out of their three games. The Blues continue to stay steady in the Western Conference giving them enough leeway while the offense and defense continue to improve.

      6. Carolina Hurricanes(15-8-1)

  • Record over this past week: 3-1-0
  • Previous Ranking: 6
  • The Hurricanes continue to stay consistent this season with scoring. In the past week, the team scored 13 goals in their four games. The team’s goaltending has been doing well this past week only allowing 9 goals overall and having a shutout against the Red Wings on Sunday. The team has some top offensive scores, including Sebastian Aho with 12 goals and Andrei Svenchnikov, who is leading the team in points. The Hurricanes are sitting comfortably in the Eastern Conference allowing for some wiggle room going into these next few weeks of games.
  1. Arizona Coyotes(14-8-3)
  • Record over this past week: 2-1-1
  • Previous Ranking: 9
  • Moving up in ranking is no surprise for the Coyotes this season. With young players such as 21-year-old defensemen Jakob Chychrun, who has 5 goals this season, 23-year-old left-winger Christian Dvorak, who has 6 goals, and 23-year-old right-winger Connor Garland, who has 10 goals this season, the team is able to consistently win games and fight hard against their opponents. Nothing though has brought wins to the Coyotes more than their dynamic goaltending duo of Antti Raanta and Darcy Kuemper, who alone have each had over 300 saves this season. The Coyotes should continue to improve in ranking but it will be determined by how they play against the Ducks, Golden Knights, and Sharks this upcoming week.
  1. Dallas Stars(14-8-2)
  • Record over this past week: 3-0-0
  • Previous Ranking: NR
  • The Stars are becoming a wild card in rankings this year as the team continues to rise and fall on the list. The goaltending out of Dallas is doing extremely well, only allowing 5 goals in their last three games.  Both Bishop and Khudobin have had a great season thus far with Bishop having over 400 saves and Khudobin with over 200. The goaltending isn’t the only thing going well for the Stars. Forwards Tyler Seguin and Roope Hintz lead the team in goals and points. If the Stars keep up the hard work, they could be a strong contender moving forward.
  1. Winnipeg Jets(14-9-1)
  • Record over this past week: 2-1-0
  • Previous Ranking: NR
  • The Winnipeg Jets are another wild card going into this round of rankings. The Jets have struggled this season to make a name for themselves as they have stayed consistent in mediocrity. The Jets are beginning to find the net with great offense from Nikolaj Ehlers, Mark Scheifele, and Patrik Laine, who are all the top players for the team right now in assists, goals, and overall points respectively. The Jets goaltending has had a few hits this season, with the goaltenders having an average GAA between 2.42-3.90.  The Jets have three games coming up but will they be able to save their spot in rankings as Colorado sees their stars return from injury?
  1. Florida Panthers(12-7-5)
  • Record over this past week: 2-2-0
  • Previous Ranking: 10
  • The Panthers are on everyone’s radar right now as they continue to prove themselves in the NHL. Being a team with little to offer goaltending-wise, it is a good thing they have an offense to carry the team. With players such as Brett Connolly leading with 11 goals and Jonathan Huberdeau leading the team in points, the Panthers continue to find the net.  The Panthers have put up 14 goals in their last four games while allowing 15 goals combined. The defense for this team needs to improve and help the team going forward. With games against the Capitals and Predators this week, it will be interesting to see if the Panthers can stay in the ranks.

  1. The Oilers—after years of futility—are finally reaping the rewards of having acquired Connor McDavid, the most exciting player to come into the league since Syd the Kid. Could we be seeing the beginning of another Oilers dynasty?

    1. It could very well be possible! If Edmonton can put together enough talent around their superstar for years to come, hockey is going to be very special in Alberta! Thanks for reading the article and checking out our site! We appreciate it!
