Per ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Kelvin Gastelum will fight Israel Adesanya at UFC 236 on April 13th for the UFC Interim Middleweight Championship. This move comes as current UFC Middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker recovers from a hernia injury suffered the day of UFC 234 back on February 3rd. Adesanya earned the interim title shot after defeating Anderson Silva in the main event of UFC 234. Adesanya is undefeated in his professional MMA career at 16-0 and is 5-0 since joining the UFC.
Gastelum was supposed to fight Whittaker for the middleweight title at UFC 234 until Whittaker suffered the hernia. Gastelum holds a professional MMA record of 15-3(1 NC), with a 10-3(1 NC) in the UFC. Some of his notable wins include Jake Ellenberger, Nate Marquardt, Johny Hendricks, Michael Bisping, and most recently, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.
The fight has not been named the main event and the card does not have a location either at this moment.
