Ellen Lee DeGeneres, born 1958 is an American comedian, actress, television host, writer, and producer. She started her career as a comedian in the early 1980s making a name herself on the circuit and through appearances on major late-night talk shows.
She starred in two television sitcoms, Ellen from 1994 to 1998, and The Ellen Show from 2001 to 2002. In 2003 she jumped into hosting her syndicated TV Talk show which is still running. In 2010 she also joined the cast of American Idol on the judge’s panel.
She has hosted the Academy Awards, The Grammys and the Primetime Emmys as well as authoring 4 books. Throughout her career she has won 30 Emmys and 20 People’s Choice Awards.
