Jeffrey Preston Bezos, born January 12, 1964 in Albuquerque, NM is an American technology and retail entrepreneur best known as the founder of Amazon the world’s largest online shopping retailer.
Bezos graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with degrees in both electrical engineering and computer science. After graduation he worked on Wall Street until leaving to launch his online bookseller in early 1994. He founded Amazon in late 1994 and the company began as an online merchant of books and expanded to a wide variety of products and services.
Amazon is also the world’s largest provider of cloud infrastructure services via its Amazon Web Services division. Bezos diversified his business interests by founding aerospace company blue origin in 2000 and purchasing The Washington Post newspaper in 2013 for $250 million in cash.
He recently surpassed Bill Gates to become the world’s wealthiest person and with a recent bump to Amazon shares his net worth is now sitting at around $123 Billion.
A far cry from his humble beginnings at Amazon.
